An Interesting Stand

Portuguese auction house, P55 Art and Auctions have a sale coming up on the 10th of November that includes a sixteenth-century carved, gold- and red-lacquered Sino-Portuguese missal stand bearing the Society of Jesus insignia (lot 137).

The folding stand, carved from a single piece of wood, pre-dates André Roubo’s bookstand by a century or two and carries an auction estimate of €7,500 – €10,000 ($9,325 – $12,435).
