George Washington

In light of the growing numbers of North American readers of this blog, I thought I would observe, today, the birth of George Washington, one of the Founding Fathers and the first President of the United States of America (1789 to 1797).

My grandfather was born on Feb. 22 and he was named George Washington Lowery. Back then George’s birthday was a big deal. They would often have sales in his honor and in 1967, I purchased a new Chevy 1/2 ton pickup for $2222.00 on the road (this included taxes and tags)!
Sadly, they have diluted the date, by calling it “President’s Day”.

Even though we’re across “the Pond”, at least we have a common interest!
