Woolley and Wallis are conducting a Furniture, Works of Art & Clocks auction in Salisbury, Wiltshire, on Wednesday 22nd September 2021.
Amongst many of the superb items on offer is lot 180, a William and Mary green japanned chest-on-stand (figure 1) with an estimate of GBP8,000 – GBP12,000 (AUD14,960 – AUD22,441; USD11,015 – USD16,523)

That is a very elaborate piece of furniture. I have to say that I have never heard of Green Japanning . Maybe the result of a sheltered life.
Very nice chest. I notice in the auction photos they have it photographed in black light, I have been seeing that here in America as well. Very clever I think to do this to make potential buyers more comfortable the paint is old/original when they can’t examine the piece in person.
OOPS, in looking again, I don’t see the black lighted photos so maybe they didn’t.
